A city project for the pigeon

Research on the dead media of homing pigeons, developed into the interest of why pigeons in the cities are mainly seen as annoyance, although they are actually lost homing pets that did not return home, and how this could be changed towards the future.

In this collaboration project the co-existence of humans and pigeons in the city is the foundation of the design. What if pigeons reside in appropriate nesting and are not scattered around town? A landmark pigeon house, reflecting a typical bird house from the bird view for easy navigation, is made attractive for pigeons representing a rock like structure as they decent from rock pigeons.

The design is based on the containerships in the harbour of Rotterdam, making a colourfull palette of pigeon houses. The boxes are stagged, creating small sitting areas in-between boxes, recreating a rock-like setup.
